About

The Chicago Connections retreat provides the space and opportunity for BIPOC scholars at Loyola and at neighboring Chicago-area institutions to meet one another, share knowledge and experiences, rediscover the joy and purpose in research and writing, and develop strategies for collaborative research.

But most importantly, the goal of the retreat is for every participant to make a connection that results in a writing buddy, research collaborator, trusted reader of first (or second, or third) drafts, a sounding board, and even a friend.

Has the pandemic left you feeling isolated and off-track? During the retreat, you can participate in a series of interactive and engaging workshops that allow you to:
  • Establish intellectual and social connections with other scholars of color in the Chicago-area
  • Build a more intimate and healthier relationship to your research and writing practice
  • Develop sustainable practices for well-being and resilience
  • Recharge from the stresses of the academic year and craft a sustainable plan for a productive and enjoyable summer
Led by experienced professionals with expertise in the areas above, the Loyola University Retreat and Ecology Campus (LUREC) will take place in Woodstock, IL. The grounds feature 98 acres of prairies, savannas, woodlands, wetlands, and ponds, serving as an ideal location for re-centering, community building, and interactive learning. Give yourself the gift of time, free yourself from distractions, and join us for this event curated specifically for faculty of color.
