Regional Rambler Communities
What is a Regional Rambler Community?
Community is one of the pillars of our collective Jesuit education and a value Loyola Alumni
Relations promotes with its active Regional Rambler Communities.
A Regional Rambler Community is a group of Loyola University Chicago alumni who live in a
particular geographical area. Regional Rambler Communities provide opportunities for alumni to
stay connected to one another and the University through meaningful engagement, which
includes partnering with University departments such as Admissions to help attract and
welcome future Ramblers into the greater Loyola community.
Led by volunteers and in partnership with Loyola staff, each community’s steering committee
is encouraged to be creative in designing engagement opportunities reflective of their region’s
unique culture. The Advancement division supports innovative engagement programming while
ensuring all active regions and Rambler Communities are advancing toward our shared
University goals.
Active Regional Rambler Community Criteria
Each Rambler Community aims to meet the desires of its local alumni and reflect the unique surroundings of their regions. However, it is imperative for long-term success that all active communities reflect the mission of the University and its overarching alumni engagement goals. To support these efforts, all operate under the same guidelines and commit to the following:
- Plan and execute a minimum of three engagement opportunities each year to facilitate sustaining, lifelong connections to Loyola.
- A signature cornerstone event to ensure consistency and tradition.
- An event driven by alumni leadership will serve as an opportunity to convene alumni with a focus on networking and meeting the unique desires of the Rambler Community.
- A service opportunity as part of the National Jesuit Alumni Day of Service, traditionally held in March.
- Participate in an annual planning process to share a calendar of engagement activities and initiatives in consultation with Loyola Advancement.
- Champion signature Loyola programs and initiatives, such as Alumni Weekend and Rambler Rally.
- Identify, recruit, and welcome new alumni in the region to the Rambler Community.
- Foster relationships with new volunteers to increase leadership development opportunities and Community sustainability.
- Support campus-wide initiatives such as recruitment, mentorship, experiential learning, and more.
Support a culture of philanthropy at Loyola by maintaining an annual gift requirement for Rambler Community leadership.
To be established as a formal Rambler Community, the region must demonstrate two consecutive years of hosting a signature event with year-over-year growth. Additionally, a steering committee of five or more alumni must be identified and committed. Upon the conclusion of the second successful year, the region may be invited to apply for establishment as a Rambler Community to the Loyola University Chicago Alumni Association Board.
Once established as a formal Rambler Community, the region will be eligible for increased monetary resources, dedicated branding and webpage, priority in University-wide initiatives such as Presidential trips, and more.
Regional Rambler Communities currently exist in two U.S. metropolitan areas:
- Los Angeles
- New York City
Active regions currently in the formation process include:
- Denver
- Milwaukee
- San Francisco
- St. Louis
- Washington D.C.
Each Regional Rambler Community hosts lively events and opportunities for alumni in those markets to meet one another and celebrate Loyola pride.
