Julie Brautigam

Senior Global Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability Leader, Hollister Incorporated

Julie Brautigam was most recently at Takeda Pharmaceutical as the Head of Procurement, Risk, Sustainability, Performance & Innovation for the 239-year-old Japanese-headquartered global pharmaceutical company. Julie joined Takeda in November 2014. In this role, Julie defined the company’s supplier risk strategy, incorporating strategic, operational, financial, and sustainability risks into the company’s global procurement function addressing over 60,000 suppliers globally, while ensuring alignment with the United Nations Global Compact and company sustainability priorities. Julie directed the company’s Sustainable Procurement program including supplier diversity, assuring the company spent over 10% of its US spend with small and diversity businesses. In January 2016, Julie assumed additional responsibility for the supplier relationship management program at Takeda, establishing a consistent approach, process efficiencies, as well as partnering behaviors and competencies for the Procurement team – all aimed at generating value beyond cost management with its suppliers. While at Takeda, Julie has extended her impact to Takeda’s Corporate Environmental Council, the Global Diversity and Inclusion Council, served as the function’s Ethics & Compliance Ambassador, and participated in the Women’s Inclusion Network at Takeda.

Julie has a proven track record of extending her leadership beyond Takeda to the pharma industry, as a three-year board member of the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative, a group of over 30 global pharmaceutical companies dedicated to enhancing the responsibility of its supply chain. During her tenure, Julie doubled membership in that organization, established the industry’s strategic plan, and published the industry’s first public report on progress.

Prior to Takeda, Julie was most recently a Director of Global Supply Chain Sustainability at Baxter International Inc. There, her accomplishments included responsible sourcing, including establishing Baxter’s Conflict Minerals program, advancing supplier diversity and coordinating the company’s executive-level Sustainability Steering Committee. This Committee, now called the Corporate Responsibility Committee sets the sustainability strategic planning process, and directly established the company’s long-term sustainability goals for 2015 and 2020. In the course of these efforts, Julie integrated sustainability into business plans, preserving top-line revenue growth of $1 billion, improved the company’s global CO2 product transport distribution emissions by 15%, achieved supply chain inventory cost savings of $5 million, and generated $3 million in annual environmental supplier value improvement projects. She held several other roles at Baxter during her tenure, including in Legal as an Ethics and Compliance Director establishing the company’s third-party anticorruption program globally and as an Environment, Health and Safety Compliance Manager. Julie’s leadership in establishing the third-party program at Baxter was a key factor in securing the company’s positive outcome in two government investigations. As an Environment, Health and Safety Compliance Manager, Julie supported Baxter’s manufacturing operations in more than 60 countries, including handling legacy environmental remediation sites and the company’s Superfund administration, as well as complex EHS compliance matters requiring negotiations with government regulators. Prior to the healthcare industry, Julie worked for a private energy producer, managing EHS compliance for power plants and in the paper and forest products industry.

Julie earned her Master’s in Environmental Management, Economics and Policy at Duke University, and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Illinois Wesleyan University.
