Matt Kruse

Head of Social Responsibility, Groupon

Matt Kruse is a corporate communications professional with more than 15 years of experience leading best-in-class social responsibility, community affairs, and sustainability programs across financial services, retail and e-commerce industries.

Currently, he is the head of social responsibility at Groupon (Chicago, IL). Matt’s team is responsible for making sure Groupon and its employees help communities prosper through a secret formula of employee do-goodery, responsible business practices, customer collaboration and nonprofit investment.

Prior to joining Groupon, Matt was manager of corporate responsibility and sustainability at Allstate Insurance (Northbrook, IL). In that role, he developed a variety of successful programs designed to increase employee engagement and corporate reputation, including Allstate’s inaugural “week of service” and the company’s first volunteer recognition program. Other accomplishments include positioning Allstate as one of America’s leading companies for climate change disclosure and managing production of Allstate’s annual Corporate Responsibility Report.

Matt also spent time at OfficeMax (Naperville, IL) on the community affairs team. In addition to coordinating employee volunteer and corporate contributions programs, he helped create and manage the company’s first social impact measurement framework.

Matt graduated from Valparaiso University and currently resides in Oak Park, IL, in a home built when Teddy Roosevelt was president. He spends an inordinate amount of energy trying to convince his wife, Cathy, that installing a batting cage in the backyard for his sons, Wilson and Ben, is a shrewd investment.
