Michael O'Loughlin and Hidden Mercy
Loyola--Rogers Park Community Book Club
Michael O'Loughlin read from his book Hidden Mercy: AIDS, Catholics, and the Untold Stories of Compassion in the Face of Fear and engage our community in conversation. O'Loughlin paints a compelling picture of those quiet heroes who, in the height of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, responded to human suffering with absolute heroism. So much of society--and so much of the church--told them to look away; and O'Loughlin's work invite us to honor pure acts of compassion and mercy offer--acts that provide hope and inspiration as we continue to confront existential questions about what it means to be Americans, Christians, and human beings responding to those most in need.
A collaboration between the Hank Center, St. Gertrude Church, and Loyola's Office of Mission Integration.
