An online, 7-part serial symposium in collaboration with John Carroll University, marking the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home.

Envisioning a Livable Future is an online, serial conference marking the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. This groundbreaking document called climate change “one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day,” proposed an analysis of “the human roots of the ecological crisis,” and advanced a new ecological vision for the challenges ahead.

Guided by the Jesuit apostolic preferences to “accompany young people in the creation of a hope-filled future” and to "collaborate in the care of our common home,” the conference seeks to inspire lively interdisciplinary dialogues aimed at:

• Raising ecological consciousness,

• Drawing attention to climate-forward initiatives, and

• Encouraging both personal discernment and social action.

Following the four spring 2025 events, fall 2025 events will address investment and finance for a greener future, the promise and perils of technology, and the role of the arts.

Climate Change Conference: Shifting Waters: Water Security and the Emerging Water Crisis

The conference examines the climate crisis from multiple perspectives, highlighting the connections between climate change and social justice, and convenes experts and leaders from diverse sectors to surface and advance just and equitable solutions to the climate crisis. This year’s conference is entitled Shifting Waters: Climate Change, Water Security and the Emerging Water Crisis which will be held March 12 – 15, 2025 in the Sr. Jean MPRs.

Special final panel and reception:

The Hank Center has supported the annual Climate Change Conference from its inception and is proud to host a special panel this year: Laudato si'@ 10: Pope Francis and Caring for Our Common Home Today. This event includes a post panel reception and is one of the free sessions offered by the conference.

This panel is free and all are welcome; registration for the conference is not required to attend this final session.

There is a concert that follows the reception, an original composition by Loyola's Dongryul Lee—Missa Laudato Si'—and we hope you are able to attend this as well. The concert is a ticketed event, which can be purchased here.
