Loyola University Chicago is a Jesuit university with a deep commitment to social justice and aims to reach beyond the campus in innovative ways.

At the Center for Engaged, Learning, Teaching & Scholarship, we believe that service-learning and other forms of Engaged Learning allow you to apply classroom lessons in our surrounding communities in ways that build the common good while growing your academic, social, civic, and vocational skills.

"This course gave me a sense of community within Loyola and in the Edgewater neighborhood. It allowed me to establish connections with local organizations, as well as individuals. This experience was the perfect platform for bridging students with their community, while allowing us to offer our knowledge and skills." - Lia Tsikretsis, '19

During the 2023 - 2024 school year:

2,314 students participated in service-learning opportunities across 120 sections of service-learning courses in 32 departments.

Overall, students completed 87,000 hours of working and learning in the community.

Students who engage in service-learning are better able to understand and apply academic course content to their service experience in meaningful ways.
