The Wellness Center
How can the Wellness Center help me?
The Wellness Center can provide you with a range of services depending on your needs. We offer medical services, counseling services (both individual and group), and sexual assault advocacy.
If you wish to access medical services at the Wellness Center, a medical professional can perform a basic physical and gynecological exam to assess and/or treat for injuries. The Wellness Center can also perform STI/HIV testing.
If you wish to schedule a brief phone call to assess counseling needs, please call the Wellness Center at 773-508-8883. Individual or group counseling options are available. For individual counseling, brief short-term therapy is offered.
The Wellness Center also employs trained sexual assault advocates. Trained advocates are available to answer any questions that you may have, including how to report an incident of violence, what resources exist on- and off-campus, what Loyola's conduct process looks like, how to safety plan, and more. You can make an appointment with an advocate by calling The Line at 773-494-3810.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes. In order to see a counseling professional or medical staff person, you will need to make an appointment. This is necessary so as to avoid long wait times in the clinic. Please call Dial-A-Nurse at 773-508-8883 to make an appointment. For some services, you may also make an appointment online.
How do I make an appointment?
Please call Dial-A-Nurse at 773-508-8883 to make an appointment or visit our website.
Can I choose who I see?
When calling Dial-A-Nurse at 773-508-8883 to make an appointment, you can ask to see a provider that you’ve seen in the past or mention certain preferences you may have (such as gender). The Wellness Center will try to accommodate your requests to the best of our abilities.
Is it free?
Yes. Students currently attending classes (full or part-time) are eligible to use the services at the Wellness Center free of charge.
Certain lab tests, immunizations, prescription medications, and materials are provided for an additional fee. Additionally, there are fees in the summer for graduate students.
What will the Wellness Center do with the information I share?
Wellness Center services are confidential. No information you share with a staff member will be shared with any other department at Loyola. If you would like a Wellness Center staff person to coordinate outside services, they are happy to support such communications with a release of information form.
Will they tell my parents/guardian?
No. All Wellness Center visits are confidential. Loyola does not offer parents/guardians access to student medical records. If you want a provider to speak with your parent(s), The Wellness Center will seek your written permission before doing so.
Does the information I share go on my permanent academic record?
Wellness Center services are confidential. No information you share with a staff member will be shared with any other department at Loyola, nor will anything go on your student education record.
What’s the difference between seeing someone at the Wellness Center and seeing someone off-campus?
Who you choose to see is completely up to you. The benefit of seeking services at the Wellness Center is that our services are free and you can be seen relatively quickly—often that same day for medical services. We recognize that it can be difficult to discuss certain experiences with a school staff member, so we also support your right to see someone off-campus and can provide you with a referral. Long term therapy can be helpful as it provides ongoing support throughout your academic career.
