Loyola University Chicago Partners with Chicago Public Schools to Create an Innovative System for Science Teacher Career Development
School and district leadership activities are typically directed by administrators. Even when teacher leadership is prioritized, many professional learning (PL) programs fail to integrate content and pedagogical learning with leadership skill development. To address this gap, Loyola University Chicago’s Center for Science and Math Education (CSME) partnered with Chicago Public Schools’ (CPS) Department of STEM to create a professional learning program for science teacher leaders. This program, which has undergone various iterations, focuses on enhancing CPS K-8 science teachers' depth of knowledge, instructional practices, and leadership capacities.
