Incoming Students

Welcome to the Office of First and Second Year Advising

First and Second Year Advising is excited to welcome you to Loyola University Chicago.

Incoming students will register for their classes the week prior to joining us on campus for orientation. Instead of having just an hour or two at orientation to consider options and ask questions, students have several days to create their fall schedule. When students arrive at orientation, they can focus on learning about resources and building community with their peers. New Ramblers will get a comprehensive email with all the information they need to register for their fall classes on a Friday, and registration will open for them the following Monday morning and close Thursday at 5 p.m. Central.

Advisors will review schedules and then a few days later, at their orientation students will have an advising rotation at orientation. First and Second Year Advising understands that students and their families may have some questions prior to their orientation experience beginning, so we are happy to be provide you with some information regarding our academic advising model; additional information about fall registration; and some example academic plans to popular majors. We also have several videos that go over AP, IB, and transfer credits, as well as the placement tests that many of our incoming students need to take prior to registration.
