Fall into Jazz at the Loyola University Museum of Art

New Friday Night Concert Series to Feature Top Chicago Musicians


 

CHICAGO, September 11, 2008 — Chicagoans and tourists looking to unwind after a long day or week of work have a new destination this fall, as the Loyola University Museum of Art (LUMA) officially kicks off its "Fall into Jazz" concert series on Friday, September 26. 

A companion program to the museum's current exhibition, Suitcase Paintings: Small Scale Abstract Expressionist Works, the concert series highlights young musical talent in Chicago and allows guests to enjoy a relaxing pre-dinner concert before heading out for the night, or home to start the weekend. 

All "Fall into Jazz" concerts take place at the Loyola University Museum of Art, located at 820 North Michigan Avenue, and begin at 6 p.m.

The Jordan Baskin Trio
Friday, September 26, at 6 p.m. ($15 admission includes open bar)
Friday, October 10, at 6 p.m. (Free with $6 museum admission) 

Jordan Baskin, whom the Chicago Tribune called .a promising and distinctive young artist,. along with Dr. Billy Taylor, proclaimed a .wonderful pianist,. has been a fixture in Chicago since graduating from Indiana University in 2001. The Jordan Baskin Trio, which also features Jake Vinsel on bass and Brian Ritter on drums, is often found at Andy's, one of Chicago's oldest and most prestigious jazz clubs. 

The Chris White Trio
Friday, October 3, at 6 p.m. (Free with $6 museum admission) 

The Chris White Trio, a group of jazz performers and educators from Chicago, consists of Chris White on piano, Mark O'Connor on tenor sax, and Mike Staron on double bass. Specializing in the music of the hard-bop era of the 1950s, the group has a unique sound that blends traditional and contemporary elements. 

New Millennium Orchestra Jazz Trio
Friday, October 17, at 6 p.m. (Free with $6 museum admission) 

The final installment of LUMA's .Fall into Jazz. series features the New Millennium Orchestra, a talented ensemble of musicians who excel in a wide variety of musical genres. The New Millennium Orchestra Jazz Trio includes John Smillie (drums), Dave Miller (guitar), and Dan Thatcher (bass).
