At the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, we offer six certificate programs for both bachelor's and master's prepared nurses. You’ll take courses taught by Loyola faculty and participate in advanced practice clinical experiences.
Post-Graduate Certificate Programs
Loyola's post-graduate Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) certificate programs are geared toward master’s and DNP prepared nurses who need additional content and clinical expertise to prepare for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) national certification examination. The student works with the Program Director to develop an individual plan of study. After the Spring 2022 admission cycle, completion of a DNP degree will be needed to apply to the post-graduate certificate program.
PROGRAM GOAL
The goal of the post-graduate Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) certificate programs is to prepare APRNs in a selected role and population, with the option of a specialty focus, by building on previous graduate level nursing education.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES
Upon the successful completion of the Post-Graduate Certificate Program, the graduate will be able to:
- Integrate scientific findings from nursing, healthcare, biopsychosocial fields and public health into values-based advanced practice nursing care.
- Function as a clinical leader, emphasizing ethical and critical decision-making and effective working relationships in the delivery of safe, high quality, patient-centered care.
- Use translational science to integrate evidence into practice.
- Employ advocacy strategies in advanced nursing practice.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and communities, utilizing culturally sensitive, evidencebased strategies for health promotion and disease prevention.
- Communicate, collaborate, and consult with members of the interprofessional team in the improvement of patient and population health outcomes.

The U.S. Department of Education requires any institution offering distance education/online programs to students outside of its home state to acquire authorization from the states in which students reside. Regulations vary from state to state. While Loyola University Chicago is authorized, exempt or pursuing authorization in most states, some restrictions apply.
