Finding community and a sense of belonging at a university can have a significant impact on student engagement. While initiatives that incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion in online course design remain important, the next challenge is to cultivate a sense of belonging so students feel they fit into an academic community. In this session, we discuss this sense of belonging, how it affects students, what factors play into it, and how online instructors can increase it to help their students succeed.
