A Gift of Time

November 12, 2020

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As we head toward the holiday season, we are grateful to all members of our community for the diligent work, flexibility, and resilience you've demonstrated as we navigate this challenging semester. We understand the demands of adapting to remote work and instruction have meant juggling extra time, training, work, and personal priorities. Work-life balance on many days is more aspiration than reality.

In acknowledgment of those challenges and in recognition of the hard work and commitment of faculty and staff through this unprecedented period, we are pleased to add additional paid time off around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Loyola University Chicago will close for Thanksgiving early this year so that you may enjoy a full day off on Wednesday, November 25.

In preparation for December planning, we will also close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23 for the Christmas holiday and re-open Monday, January 4, 2021. Human Resources will share more details about how employees should code their time cards for the additional time off.

As persons for others, we will be celebrating the holidays differently this year with greater measures of health and safety in mind. We do hope the additional time off will create space for virtually connecting with family and friends and for personal reflection and rest.

Please know how deeply appreciative we are for the many extra miles you have gone this semester to care for our students and each other as we advance our mission of education, research, and service.

Yours in Loyola,

Jo Ann Rooney, JD, LLM, EdD
