Boston: Touring the City

On Saturday March 2nd we started the Quinlan Ramble trip by meeting in Damen and having brunch before departing for the airport. It was a nice time to reconnect with everyone and get to know each other a little bit more. For having such a large group, everything went smoothly at the airport and on the flight to Boston (besides a little bit of turbulence). Once we arrived at the hotel we all got checked into our rooms and then headed to the hotel restaurant for dinner. The food was very good and it was nice to get to know the other students on the trip. After a long day of traveling it was nice to just spend the rest of the evening relaxing.

On Sunday I had breakfast in the hotel lobby with my roommate and a few other students who were in the restaurant. From there we departed to the Boston Harbor cruise dock. The boat tour was interesting; Boston has so much history, in addition to some major changes that have taken place in the city over the years. From there we went to lunch, and then we had the rest of the day to explore the city. Everyone went to the Boston Aquarium, which was packed. There was a huge fish tank that connected all fours levels of the aquarium. We saw lots of fish, sharks, and sea turtles. There was a sea turtle that has been there since 1970. Also, I learned that no one really has any idea of how long turtles exactly live because they live for so long. Next my group went to the 50th floor observatory. I have never been to Boston before so I found it fascinating how spread out the city is. There was this map on the wall of the different sections that make up the city. It was different to me because I am used to downtown Chicago and the skyscrapers; Boston is different. From there we wandered around and went into some stores and made our way back to the hotel. Before leaving on this trip I was nervous, even though we have a schedule, and I just wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t know anyone that well. In just the past 24 hours I have met so many amazing people within Quinlan. I cannot wait for the rest of the week and all the amazing opportunities.
