Loyola's challenge course at the Retreat and Ecology Campus is one of the largest and most exciting ropes courses in Illinois. Participants will have the opportunity to transfer learning on the course to their everyday lives through a reflective process, while developing trust, communication, and leadership capacities.

New Duchossois Food Systems Lab and Kitchen now open at LUREC
Loyola's Retreat and Ecology Campus is thrilled to announce that its new demonstration kitchen, the Duchossois Food Systems Lab and Kitchen, is now open for classes and events. The goal of the kitchen is to bring the experience of a professional kitchen to students, community members, and others, including those not familiar with food preparation. The kitchen, in conjunction with the campus farm, will allow students and guests to learn techniques that will lead to better, smarter, and healthier ways of living. Some team popular team building offerings include an Iron Chef Experience, Employee Incentive Program, and Farm Workshops.

Hope is the thing with feathers
Despite several degrees and years of experience that indicate otherwise, Stephen Mitten, S.J., doesn’t think of himself strictly as a scientist. “I see myself more as a naturalist,” he says. “I’m an ambassador for the environment.” As spiritual director and resident ecology faculty at Loyola’s Retreat and Ecology Campus, Fr. Mitten teaches several biology and conservation courses. But his real love is avian ecology.
