Volunteer
Opportunities
There are many ways to get involved in our partner schools! We approach collaboration from the principle of mutual benefit. We seek to work with our partner schools in ways that support the vision, goals, and initiatives of all of our institutions. Loyola students, faculty, and staff can engage with our partner schools through mutually-beneficial projects that can be tailored to volunteers' interest, expertise, and availability.
University-School Partners has a variety of ways that volunteers can participate in our partnerships. This can include: participating in an existing program, working alongside an instructor or resource coordinator to enrich the experience of the students; or proposing a new project, initiative, or support strategy that ultimately supports the goals of the schools and is responsive to the academic goals of Loyola.
We work with faculty, staff, and student groups on projects of any size and duration. Our staff is excited to collaborate to make new initiatives successful and sustainable. We have opportunities that align with many schedules and interests. Contact us to learn more about how you can get involved!
Requirements
All Chicago Public Schools volunteers must complete a CPS Volunteer Application through Chicago Public Schools CiviCore database and a criminal background check.
Depending on the amount of time spent in the school, volunteers may also have to complete mandated reporter training and a tuberculosis screening. Your volunteer coordinator will let you know if these additional requirements apply to you and will help you throughout the process.
*All screening is done at no cost to the applicant.
Application Process
- Contact University-School Partners staff to learn about volunteer opportunities or to propose a new program. Inquiries regarding Senn High School or McCutcheon Elementary School should be directed to the Senn/Loyola Partnership Coordinator. All other inquiries should be directed to the Schools 2020 Program Director.
- Complete a CPS volunteer application through the Chicago Public Schools CiviCore database.
- Select “Loyola Schools 2020” from drop down list of volunteer locations.
- Volunteers working more than five hours per week in a school and volunteers accompanying students on over-night trips are designated as LEVEL I volunteers. Those volunteering for less than five hours per week are considered LEVEL II volunteers.
- LEVEL I volunteers will receive instructions on completing their background check and tuberculosis test upon completion of their CPS volunteer application.
- LEVEL II volunteers do not need to complete additional screening.
- All volunteers are encouraged to complete the mandated reporter training regardless of level of involvement. However, only LEVEL I volunteers are required to do so.
- A government issued ID is required to approve an application. Arrange a time with your volunteer coordinator to have your ID scanned.
