International Public Relations: London

COMM 278

This intensive summer program explores how public relations is defined and practiced in an era of globalization. As more companies become multinational and as public issues continue to grow worldwide in focus, professional communicators work in an increasingly interconnected world. Understanding this environment and developing the skills to navigate it will help prepare students for careers in public relations, advertising, digital and social media, marketing and business. Through classes and field trips, students will examine the growth of public relations around the world, compare the definition and practice of public relations in different countries, analyze and discuss real-world cases and learn best practices in communication. London is the European hub of public relations and home to many global public relations agencies and multinational corporations. One third of the world’s largest companies have European headquarters in London, so it’s the perfect place to study international public relations. The two-week, three-credit program is based at the University of London, and students will stay, eat breakfast and have class in the same residence hall.

COMM 278 is an approved elective for Ad/PR majors and Communications Studies majors, as well as Global and International Studies majors and minors in the College of Arts in Sciences. In previous years, participants have ranged from rising sophomores to second-year graduate students.

There are no pre-requisites for the course, though ideally, students will have completed COMM 210: Principles of PR.
