Mission in Action
The School of Social Work mission of “transformative education” is complimentary to the Mission of Loyola University for all the undergraduate students. As Director of the BSW program my goal is to provide an educational curriculum focusing on the development of future social workers. “Social Justice” for marginalized and vulnerable populations is not only a goal of social work education but corresponds to a strategic goal of the University. One factor contributing to undergraduate transformation is the University requirement for “Engaged Learning.” Our Introduction to Social Work course in the BSW program is a University designated “Service Learning” course. The goals of Engaged Learning are to (1) connect students to the Mission of the University and (2) impact the students’ personal, civic and professional development.
