About Us
The Sociolegal Studies minor in the College of Arts and Sciences provides an interdisciplinary approach to the study of law and society. Courses in the minor examine the ways law affects society, the values expressed in law and shaped by legal structures, and the links between law and the social, economic, and political features of society. As an interdisciplinary program, the Sociolegal Studies minor includes courses from several departments: Anthropology, Classical Studies, Computer Science, Criminal Justice and Criminology, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. Through courses across these disciplines, students become aware of the ways law and legal thought pervade many aspects of life and begin to understand the power of law to affect social justice and social change.
