What is your favorite thing about working at Loyola?
I enjoy working with a creative and positive staff where there is always a sense of community among students, faculty, and staff. Leading a revenue-generating department, I love the challenges and creative ideas that we come up with to drive new avenues of revenue for the university. I feel blessed to have such a great staff that treats each other like family and shares in each other's successes.
What is your most memorable achievement as a Loyola employee?
Our department has had some great achievements over the past 17 years. The AJCU President’s leadership conference was hosted at a different Jesuit university across the country every year—that is, until they came to Loyola. The conference and foodservice team made such a positive impact on the group and the decision makers during that week-long conference that it was decided that Loyola would be the permanent home for this conference.
Renovations and changes on campus from 2009–2015 helped our department grow revenues by 800% and our profit by 750%. Our profits go back into the university to assist with student scholarships and building renovations.
What does Loyola's mission mean to you?
The mission permeates in all of our work and daily efforts in the Conference Services department. We are a huge part of the University and are charged with living this mission in our daily lives and values as well as encouraging our students do the same in their lives. Cultivating the passion as a person for others is an equally important process that we aim for each day as well.
What motivates you to succeed each and every day?
I am motivated by the success of our department and the positive impact we have on the University with the conferences and events we bring to campus. Working in a team environment to achieve our goals and mentor our student staff is very rewarding to all of us.
Tell us how you show your Rambler pride.
This past March I had an uncle going through some cancer treatments at Mayo. As I spent time with him, I took along some Loyola basketball t-shirts and a hat—and I even had Sr. Jean make him a get-well video, which he LOVED! (Thank you again, Sr. Jean.)
He still wears his Loyola hat and t-shirts, and we often talk about the future of Loyola’s basketball team. I ensure him they are going all the way this year.
Tell us something most people at Loyola would be surprised to know about you.
I enjoy outdoor activities, White Sox baseball, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Notre Dame football.
