Welcome and Introduction from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Neuroscience. For over 100 years, our department has been a leader in Pharmacology research and innovative educational programs. Today, we have more than 30 faculty members (primary, joint, affiliate, and adjunct members) who teach and participate in research and service programs.
We re-named the department in 2019 to emphasize its historical expertise and growth in Neuroscience research. This rebranding has helped invigorate and increase the number of faculty and students who conduct state-of-the-art Neuropharmacology and Pharmacology research spanning many sub-specialties. These include: Neuropharmacology, Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Hemostasis and Thrombosis Pharmacology, and Cancer Therapeutics. Our research is primarily located in the Center for Translational Research and Education on the Loyola University Chicago Health Sciences Campus, with several active programs at the adjacent Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital. Additionally, we have several affiliate/adjunct faculty who conduct research in the pharmaceutical industry, bringing industrial pharmaceutical research expertise and educational opportunities to our students.
The department also offers several degree programs. In addition to our faculty directing and teaching the Stritch School of Medicine Medical Therapeutics course, we train PhD and MD/PhD students in the Integrated Program in Biomedical Sciences (IPBS) and MS students in our two-year, thesis-based program. The department also offers an MS/MBA program with Loyola's Quinlan School of Business, enabling students to earn both degrees in an accelerated and flexible timeframe. Additionally, department faculty are affiliated with these Health Sciences Campus graduate programs: MS in Integrative Cell Biology and MS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Finally, in collaboration with our industry affiliate faculty, we have a Pharmacovigilance Certificate program designed for working professionals to gain certification credentials in Pharmacovigilance.
