Signature Events
The following are events that are part of the annual tradition of programming on campus. Details will be provided in the Kettle email newsletter for students, the university calendar, and LUCommunity (information can be accessed when students log in).
Welcome Week: Welcome Week provides a number of opportunities for students to explore, build relationships, and have fun. A favorite event is New Student Convocation, which is a celebration of university life and the academic traditions of Loyola. After a brief welcome on the east quad, students process through the green doors of Cudahy Library (symbolizing their entry to university life) and the Welcome Cheer Tunnel to New Student Convocation in the Gentile Area. Immediately following New Student Convocation, students travel to the West Quad for a Rambler Rally and celebration of the new class.
Other Welcome Week events include (but are not limited to): Big Bus Tours of Chicago, the Students of Color & Friends Welcome Reception, Build-a-Bler (an activity in the style of build a Bear workshop), the LGBTQIA+ & Friends Reception, the Welcome Black Reception, and the Center for Diversity & Inclusion’s One Love Open House. Students can also enjoy food, music, and fun at the Water Tower Campus Block Party.
Latine Heritage Month Kick-off: This celebration is the kick-off of Latine Heritage Month.
Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American Social: The Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American (APIDA) social celebrates the vibrant traditions and cultures across the APIDA diaspora.
Family Weekend: Families of current LUC students are invited to join students, faculty, and staff on campus in an exciting event celebrating our shared Loyola Family. Over the weekend, families can explore life at Loyola, and learn more about what makes the university special.
Wellness Fair: At the Wellness Fair, students can get free flu shots, visit wellness booths, receive swag, and more. This event is typically held on the first Wednesday of October.
Fall Student Promise Week: Established “by students for students,” the Student Promise unites all Loyola students while also identifying what makes a Loyola student unique and is intended to serve as a source of student empowerment, pride, and community accountability. Held in October, the goal of Student Promise Week encourages students to uphold Loyola’s Student Promise (Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for Community). The week will include both in-person and virtual events, outreach via social media, and a Community Circle.
President’s Medallion Ceremony: The President’s Medallion honors students from each of our 14 colleges, schools, and institutes who exemplify the meaning of being a true Loyolan. Excelling not only in the classroom but also in the world around them, these students add immeasurable value to society by answering the call for leadership, scholarship, and service.
Desserts in December: Desserts in December is a celebration of students' accomplishments throughout the fall semester. The event is open to all Loyola undergrad, graduate, adult, professional and Arrupe College students.
Fall Finals Breakfast: This free, late-night breakfast for students is a finals week tradition offering students a chance to take a study break, refuel, and catch up with their friends before the last stretch of final exams. Faculty and staff participate by serving students' meals and helping with activities.
Fall Finals Grab ‘n Go (Graduate, Professional, & Adult Student Community): Take a break and grab a snack pack to stay fuel-ed up for finals preparation. Stay and hang out with friends or grab & go.
Spring Welcome Back: Join CDI, along with new and old friends as we kick-off the Spring semester with center-wide event! The event is open to all Loyola undergrad, graduate, adult, professional and Arrupe College students.
Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment: Sorority & Fraternity Life hosts Panhellenic Recruitment in late January.
Black History Month Signature Series: During Black History Month in February, two signature programs will be hosted by the Center for Black Student Excellence. These programs aim to pay tribute to the history, legacy, and tradition of Black excellence.
Women’s History Month Signature Series: During Women's History Month in March, the Center for Black Student Excellence will organize two premier events to commemorate Black women. These programs will enable participants to establish connections, acquire knowledge, and contemplate the countless contributions that Black women have made to society.

Legacy Celebration: CDI formally celebrates graduating Ramblers during the Legacy Celebration. The 17th Annual Legacy Celebration will commemorate the undergraduate, graduate, and professional students leaving their mark at Loyola and representing communities with storied legacies of strength, perseverance, excellence and diversity.
Latinx* Familia Celebration: This celebration is focused on Latinx graduating students (undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional studies) and will be a chance to highlight their accomplishments. All Ramblers are welcome.
Sankofa Celebration: The Sankofa Celebration is an official celebration that serves as a venue to honor the achievements of our graduating students who self-identify as Black. It is an occasion to acknowledge and celebrate these accomplishments in the company of their loved ones, acquaintances, and other attendees. All Ramblers are welcome.
APIDA Celebration: This celebration is focused on Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American graduating students (undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional studies) and will be a chance to highlight their accomplishments. All Ramblers are welcome.
Graduate, Professional & Adult Toast: The Graduate, Professional & Adult Toast is a tradition that encompasses a monumental champagne toast and reception for graduates and guests. The program celebrates the accomplishments of our graduate, professional, and adult student community.
Senior Toast: The Senior Toast is a beloved campus tradition that encompasses a monumental champagne toast. The event will begin in Gentile Arena with the traditional toast, followed by walking through the green doors of Cudahy Library leading into a celebration reception at the East Quad.
