More about Edward

Edward P. Monte, Ph.D. has for the past thirty-three years developed a respected and successful consultation practice to family businesses and family offices that specifically concentrates on parent-adult child relationship issues that impact family business endeavors. A particular focus in his consulting, research, and writing is the complex dynamics between fathers and sons in business together.

For the past 29 years, he has taught primarily in the Next Generation Leadership Institute within the Family Business Center at the Quinlan School of Business at Loyola University Chicago. He also serves as the Clinical Fellow for this program and, in 2019, was instated as an Adjunct Professor in the business school itself. He is presently also the co-director of their Legacy Institute working with family business founders and stewards around end of career and succession issues.

In addition, Edward delivers individual executive coaching with a focus on personal and interpersonal issues such as life cycle stages and gender issues which impact career development, leadership, motivation, and organizational dynamics.

Until the end of 2015, Edward was a practicing psychotherapist, with a career spanning over 40 years, specializing in couple and family therapy.

Five years ago, Edward moved his consulting practice to Santa Fe where he now lives. He is presently on the board of the Parker Center for Family Business in the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico. He heads the Next Generation Leadership Group at the Parker Center and also teaches the Family Business course at the Anderson School.

Most importantly for his work as a family business consultant, Edward was raised as a third-generation son in a family business. His family has run over seven family businesses in New Mexico since 1900 when they immigrated from Italy.
