Course Details

The course consists of a weekly seminar class (two hours/week), regular clinic office hours (three hours/week), additional time spent on casework outside of office hours (8-10 hours/week), attendance at a least one Tax Court calendar call, and planning and giving an educational presentation to a group within the community.

The purpose of the Federal Tax Clinic is to educate the student in the practice of federal tax law and dispute resolution before the IRS and the United States Tax Court. A complete memorandum of law must be prepared or updated for each client. You will also participate in simulated case exercises covering an offer in compromise, an audit, and a U.S. Tax Court petition.

This course fulfills Loyola’s live client experience (“LCE”) and bias, cross-cultural competency, and/or racism (“BCCR”) requirements.
