About

Kimberly Brandt serves as Chief Healthcare Investigative Counsel for the minority staff of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee.  Her professional experience includes Medicare fraud and abuse detection and prevention, program safeguard contractor oversight, data analysis, medical review and accreditation,; provider and supplier enrollment, error rate measurement for Medicare and Medicaid, and enforcement oversight of CMS’ administrative actions (including suspensions, overpayments and civil monetary penalties).  Prior to joining the Finance Committee staff, Kim was a Counsel at Alston & Bird in Washington, D.C. advising clients on compliance and fraud and abuse issues. 

Kim’s government service includes serving for nearly seven years as the Director of the Medicare Program Integrity Group at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.  Before joining CMS, Kim worked for five years at the HHS Office of Inspector General as Special Counsel and Director of External Affairs and as a Senior Counsel negotiating False Claims Act settlements and drafting Corporate Integrity Agreements as well as authoring the OIG’s compliance guidance for Individual and Small Group Physician Practices.

Kim received her JD with a concentration in health law from the DePaul School of Law, an MA in legislative affairs and health policy from George Washington University, and her undergraduate degree from Valparaiso University.
