About
Barbara Youngberg has been a senior lecturer in residence at Loyola University Chicago, School of Law since 2009 after serving for 10 years as an adjunct professor for the Beazley Institute for Health Law & Policy. She also is the Academic Director for the online health law program. Barbara is the former Vice President of Insurance, Risk, Quality Management & Legal Services for the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC). In this capacity she had responsibility for the design and management of group professional liability and provider excess insurance programs and for supporting risk reduction, patient safety, quality management and legal, regulatory and compliance services for over 100 Academic Medical Centers nationwide. She is the author of numerous text books and articles on health care risk management, patient safety, insurance, risk finance, nursing ethics and health care law. Prior to completing law school Barbara was a registered nurse working in adult and pediatric intensive care units and trauma emergency departments in Chicago. Professor Youngberg holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Illinois Wesleyan, a Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois, and Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law. In addition to teaching at Loyola, Professor Youngberg serves on the faculty of Concord Law School.
When not working to fulfill her academic responsibilities Barbara serves as a chef at the Community Feast offered through the United Methodist Church in Rogers Park and serves as a member of the Local School Council (LSC) for Lincoln Park High School in Chicago.
