Faculty
Accessibility is a shared responsibility, and the SAC collaborates with faculty to make the classroom (both in person and online) reasonably accessible.
Faculty play an integral role in shaping accommodations that both preserve the integrity of the courses being taught, and lower access barriers for students.
Faculty are welcome to extend deadlines, and excuse absences independently of university administrators. However, if they find they need assistance, or if they have concerns about a student’s progress, they can come to the SAC for support.
Any student requesting accommodations related to a disability or other condition is required to register with the Student Accessibility Center (SAC). Students are strongly encouraged to register with the SAC as early as possible, however they are welcome to register at any point during their academic career. Once registered, students will send accommodation letters to faculty each term. Students are encouraged to send letters within the first two (2) weeks of the term, however they may choose to send them at any point. Once the letters have been processed, professors will receive an accommodation notification from SAC with a link to an electronic copy of the accommodation letter. If a student finds that an approved accommodation is not working, they may request modifications or changes to their accommodations at any time. If accommodations are changed or updated during the term, the student will send an updated accommodation letter to faculty.
Students are encouraged to meet with their professor individually in order to discuss their accommodations. All information will remain confidential.
SAC (Student Accessibility Center) Recommended Syllabus Statement
Loyola University Chicago provides reasonable academic and student life accommodations for students with disabilities. Students interested in receiving academic accommodations related to a disability or other health condition are invited to register with the Student Accessibility Center (SAC) at https://www.luc.edu/sac/applywithsac/. Students may register with the SAC at any point in their academic career, however the SAC encourages students to register as early as possible to reduce delay in delivery of accommodations. The SAC, student, and professor will engage in an interactive process to determine how each student’s accommodations are applied to individual class sections.
Please note that in this class, software may be used to audio-record class lectures to provide equal access to students with disabilities. Students approved for this accommodation use recordings for their personal study only and recordings may not be shared with other people or used in any way against the faculty member, other lecturers, or students whose classroom comments are recorded as part of the class activity. Recordings are deleted at the end of the semester.
