In her role as Director, Lauren coordinates strategic support for retention-related initiatives and faculty engagement, and provides leadership for New Student Programs and the Tutoring Center. Lauren joined Loyola in 2009 and has served as an Academic Advisor and Senior Academic Advisor in the College of Arts & Sciences, and most recently as Assistant Dean in the School of Communication. Lauren earned a BA in Public Relations and Political Science at Western Kentucky University, and an M.Ed. in Student Affairs and Higher Education at the University of South Carolina. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, and movies.
Fun fact: Lauren is a self-proclaimed groupie of the local 80’s cover band, Sixteen Candles.

Rich Rowlands, Assistant Director, Learning and Academic Success

Rich Rowlands coordinates academic support and outreach initiatives such as the university's Success Coach program, the Strategies for Learning courses, and Rambler Success Program. He was previously faculty at Arrupe College. He is currently finishing a PhD program in education policy at Loyola. As a graduate researcher, he has published in academic books, journals, and magazines, as well as worked as a curriculum consultant. Previously, he was a social studies/special education teacher and did product research for Google. Rich is a music, movie, and travel aficionado who has traveled to much of the world.
Fun Fact: Rich will eat anything! He's eaten food from all around the globe. The most unusual might be escamol in Xochimilco MX.

August oversees peer tutoring initiatives in the Tutoring Center. They work to create space for students to thrive in higher education and care for holistically supporting students during their time at Loyola. August completed their bachelor’s degree in Sustainable and Renewable Energy Technology at Illinois State University and their master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. For the past two years they have supervised undergraduate students at Slippery Rock who work to educate their campus community on various health and wellness topics. They also spent a year at Carnegie Mellon University supporting students through their academic and leadership journeys. In their free time August can be found riding their bike or going on a long walk while enjoying some good music or a podcast.
Fun Fact: August loves doing puzzles, sudoku, or reading to slow down and recharge.

An Phan is an interdisciplinary professional drawing from over 5 years of experience in music education, public policy research, special education and higher education. This fall semester An is excited to be joining the ACE and Tutoring Center at Loyola University as the Tutoring Program Assistant (TPA) and the ACE Tutoring Coordinator. Currently An is an EdS School Psychology student in the School of Education at Loyola University. An has received a Bachelor of Musical Arts in Psychology and Piano Performance, and a Master of Education in Educational Psychology.
